Situated on the banks of Wolf River is the little town known as Fremont, WI. In the 2010 census the town registered a total of 679 residents. Although small, the town has the distinction as the “White Bass capital of the world.”

Since the area of Fremont is recognized as 1.2 square miles this makes the number of people per mile equal to its entire population. At last count there were 305 homes in the area.
The ages of the citizens skews slightly older than most places. 19% of the citizens are under 18 years of age while 30% are between 19 and 24. 54% of the inhabitants are between the ages of 25 and 64.
Local Economy
Due to the small nature of the town the area thrives on the influx of anglers during the spring and fall run of white bass. There are no major employers within the town other than restaurants, lodges and marinas that cater to the traveling anglers.

Like much of Wisconsin, the area of Fremont enjoys a mixture of weather. The average number of days with precipitation is around 105 while the number of sunny days reaches up to 189. There is typically 28-30 inches of rainfall per year along with another 37 inches of snowfall.
In the midst of July Fremont will see its highest temperatures, typical in the mid 80’s. However, the winter months can get rather cold with the temperature reaching as low 5 degrees in January.

The town of Fremont does not have any colleges, universities or community colleges within its limits. Within approximately 50 miles are various colleges and universities.

The elementary school, aptly named Fremont Elementary School, serves children in grades K5 up to 5th grade.

Because of the annual spawning of white bass, many guides offer their services to travelers looking to catch a large trophy. Historical figures show that it is possible to catch between 20 and 100 white bass in a single day during the spring and fall runs. Also called striper, the bass have two main runs through Fremont. The first run typically occurs around Mother’s Day in the month of May while the second run occurs in September.
Outside of these two periods anglers can be found along Wolf River in search of walleye, crappie, largemouth bass, and bluegill.
Fremont has several parks and campgrounds for people to enjoy the great outdoors with camping, hiking and nature viewing.
