For people that feel a need for speed, the Madison International Speedway claims to be the “Fastest Half-Mile Oval” in Wisconsin. The speedway has seating for 10,000+ and allows free parking.
Historical Note
The idea of workers stopping for a coffee break is thought to have started in Stoughton. The city was formed by Luke Stoughton who was an Englishman that grew up in Vermont. Between 1865 and 1900 a large number of Norwegian people settled in the town. These people were attracted to the new jobs available at the wagon manufacturer known as T.G. Mandt. The men left their jobs at various tobacco warehouses which meant that the wives now how to go to work at the tobacco companies. In order to keep the peace and maintain their home life the men negotiated for morning and afternoon breaks. The men would go home for a short period, help out with chores around the house and drink a bit of coffee.
To commemorate their heritage a Stoughton Coffee Break Festival is held each year.
